About The Port Of Cologne
Founded by the Romans and shaped by two thousand years of history, Cologne sits along the Rhine in western Germany. Its skyline is dominated by the twin-steepled Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose Gothic spires survived the extensive World War II bombing that leveled much of the surrounding Old Town. Decades of careful restoration brought back the historic squares, narrow lanes, and riverside promenades that define the city center today.
The Old Town lies within easy walking distance of the pier, making the cathedral, city hall, and Rhine embankment simple to explore on foot. Beyond the historic core, Cologne's Jewish heritage sites, traditional breweries, and riverside bike paths offer a fuller picture of a city that blends ancient roots with everyday Rhineland life.

How our planners would spend a day in Cologne.
Climb Cologne Cathedral's Tower
Ascend more than 500 steps to a viewing platform for sweeping views over the Rhine and Old Town rooftops; arrive early to beat crowds since lines can be long.
Sample Kölsch in a Brewhouse
Sit down in a traditional brewery tavern in the Old Town for a glass of Kölsch, the crisp local beer served only in small, quickly refilled glasses.
Walk Cologne's Jewish Heritage Sites
Trace centuries of Jewish life through the medieval mikveh remains and memorials near the city hall, a poignant complement to the cathedral's grandeur.
