About The Port Of Schull
Schull sits on the southern coast of County Cork, its small harbor framed by the waters of Roaringwater Bay and the slopes of Mount Gabriel rising behind the village. Long favored by sailors, the town's single main street holds a compact run of pubs, seafood restaurants, and craft shops within easy walking distance of the pier. Fishing boats and yachts share the quay, giving the place an unhurried, maritime rhythm.
Beyond the village, Roaringwater Bay opens onto a scatter of small islands, with boat trips available to Cape Clear Island and views out toward the Fastnet Lighthouse on its solitary rock. The surrounding countryside offers quiet coastal walking and sweeping views back over the bay. Schull's modest scale and rural setting make it a restful counterpoint to Ireland's larger port cities, best appreciated at an easy pace.
Pavlus Recommendations
How our planners would spend a day in Schull.
Boat Trip to Cape Clear Island
Ferries depart the pier for Ireland's southernmost inhabited island, a quiet retreat of cliff paths and birdlife around 45 minutes offshore; allow half a day and book ahead if time in port is limited.
View the Fastnet Lighthouse
Join a bay cruise for a closer look at the lonely granite lighthouse standing sentinel off the coast, one of Ireland's most photographed maritime landmarks.
Climb Mount Gabriel
A hike or drive up the slopes behind the village rewards with panoramic views over Roaringwater Bay and its scattered islands, best done in sturdy shoes with a couple of hours to spare.
